Awakening in a bathroom stall with no memory and a dead man upstairs, Deja Vu: A Nightmare Comes True!! is a hardboiled point-and-click adventure released for the NES by ICOM Simulations in 1985. Originally part of the MacVenture series, this 1940s detective noir tasks you with piecing together your identity and clearing your name before the police or the mob catch up with you.
How to play
You navigate the gritty streets of Chicago by using an on-screen cursor to select commands like “Examine”, “Take”, or “Open” and applying them to the environment or your inventory. Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move the cursor, X (A) to select actions and items, and Z (B) to cancel or close menus.
Tips
- Your character is suffering from drug-induced amnesia. Find and use the medicine in the starting bathroom early on to stave off fatal withdrawal symptoms.
- You have limited inventory space. Drop items you know you no longer need, but remember where you left them in case they become important later.
- Examine every document you find. Clues to your identity and passwords to locked doors are hidden in the text.
