Deja Vu: A Nightmare Comes True!! is a pioneering point-and-click adventure released for DOS in 1985 by ICOM Simulations. Setting the standard for the MacVenture series, the game drops you into a hardboiled 1941 Chicago noir mystery. You wake up in a bathroom stall at Joe’s Bar with a throbbing headache, a syringe mark on your arm, and complete amnesiaโonly to discover a dead body upstairs and a frame-up with your name on it. Instead of typing text commands, you solve the mystery using a revolutionary window-based, drag-and-drop interface to examine evidence and piece together your identity.
How to play
Your objective is to recover your memories, find the real killer, and clear your name before the police or hitmen track you down. The game is controlled entirely with the mouse. Click on command buttons (like Examine, Open, or Operate) and click or drag items in the environment or your inventory. To see the dense interface more clearly, press Right Alt + Enter to toggle fullscreen mode.
Tips
- Check your pockets early. One of your very first actions should be examining your own trenchcoat to find your wallet, a key, and some initial clues.
- Save your progress frequently. 1940s Chicago is dangerous, and sudden game-over screens from muggers, police, or poor choices are very common.
- Keep track of your coins. You need money to pay for the cab rides required to travel between different locations in the city.
