Game description:

Infiltrate the maze-like Gamma Base on Alcatraz Island in Deathbots, an unlicensed top-down action shooter released for the NES in 1990 by American Video Entertainment. A rogue AI has taken over the facility, and you must guide a heavily armed bipedal cyborg through eight challenging levels filled with hostile robots to destroy the central core. Known for its unforgiving difficulty and maze-like design, this obscure title offers a unique piece of unofficial NES history.

How to play

Your objective is to navigate the complex corridors, defeat or bypass enemy Deathbots, and find the teleporters to progress through all eight levels. Use the Arrow Keys to move your cyborg in eight directions. Press Z (mapped to the A button) to fire your weapon, and X (mapped to the B button) to switch weapons or use items. Press Enter (Start) to pause or start the game.

Tips

  • Ammo is limited, so aim carefully and avoid unnecessary combat when possible.
  • Learn the layout of the teleporters on each level, as some will loop you back to earlier areas, forcing you to re-navigate the maze.
  • Be cautious around doors, as their unpredictable opening and closing mechanics can trap you or expose you to enemy fire.
