Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors is a 1994 2D fighting game developed and published by Capcom for the arcade. Set in a gothic horror universe, players choose from a roster of supernatural monsters inspired by folklore and classic horror films, such as vampires, werewolves, and succubi. As Capcom’s first 32-bit arcade fighter, it introduced vibrant anime-style animation and faster-paced mechanics that would later define the genre.
How to Play
The objective is to deplete your opponent’s health bar in a best-of-three bout using strikes, throws, and special moves. By default in the web emulator, use the Arrow keys to move, jump, and crouch. The game uses a six-button attack layout for light, medium, and heavy punches and kicks, typically mapped to Z, X, C and A, S, D. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Chain Combos: Darkstalkers pioneered the “chain combo” system. String together basic attacks by pressing buttons in ascending order of strength (e.g., Light → Medium → Heavy).
- ES Moves: Once your Special meter is charged, perform a special move while pressing two punch or two kick buttons simultaneously to execute a more powerful “ES” version.
- Air Blocking: You can block incoming projectiles and jumping attacks mid-air by holding backward. This is crucial for safely approaching enemies with strong zoning.
