Game description:

Conquest of the Crystal Palace is a fantasy action-platformer released for the NES in 1990 by Quest. You play as Farron, a young prince on a journey to reclaim his kingdom from the evil King Zaras, aided by his faithful dog companion, Zap. The game stands out from typical platformers of the era by letting you command your dog in battle and featuring a shop system to purchase power-ups.

How to Play

Navigate through side-scrolling stages, defeating enemies and collecting dropped coins to spend at Kim’s shop. In the browser, the default NES controls apply: use the arrow keys to move, X to jump (A button), and Z to strike with your sword (B button). Use Enter to pause or access menus. You can also use special commands to deploy Zap to attack out-of-reach enemies or uncover hidden items.

Tips

  • Keep an eye on Zap’s health gauge; if he takes too much damage, he will be disabled and unable to help you until restored.
  • Save your coins for permanent weapon upgrades, such as the fireball sword, rather than spending them all on temporary health items early in the game.
