Choujin Ookami Senki – Warwolf is the Japanese release of the cult-classic NES action platformer Werewolf: The Last Warrior, published by Takara in 1991. You control Ken, a hero who can transform from human to a powerful werewolf to fight mutants on the colony planet Red Earth. The game is known for its comic-book presentation, high difficulty, and dynamic transformations that completely alter your character’s abilities.
How to Play
The goal is to fight your way through side-scrolling stages, defeating bosses to liberate the planet. Collect red “W” icons to transform into the Warwolf, which gives you increased strength, speed, claw attacks, and the ability to climb walls. Be careful to avoid the blue “W” icons, which will instantly revert you to your weaker human form.
Default controls map the NES gamepad to your keyboard:
- Arrow Keys: Move and climb walls (as Warwolf)
- Z: Jump
- X: Attack
- Enter: Start
- Shift: Select
Tips
- Master Wall Climbing: The Warwolf form can scale walls and jump between them. Practice this early, as later levels require precise wall-jumping to survive.
- Avoid Blue Icons: Losing your Warwolf form makes combat significantly harder. Memorize the locations of blue “W” icons so you do not accidentally collect them during fast-paced platforming.
- Use the Shockwave: You can charge your attack to unleash a powerful shockwave projectile. Use this to safely take out enemies from a distance.
