Game description:

Chameleon Twist is a creative 3D platformer released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Developed by Japan System Supply, you take control of a mutated chameleon in a colorful, surreal world. Rather than typical jumping mechanics, the game’s core focus is on your character’s incredibly long and versatile tongue, which you must use to solve physics-based puzzles and navigate tricky platforming sections.

How to Play

Your objective is to traverse each stage by mastering the tongue mechanics. Use the analog stick (mapped to arrow keys) to move and the A button (X key) to jump. The B button (C key) extends your tongueโ€”you can stick it to wooden poles to swing across gaps or pull yourself up to higher ledges. You can also snag enemies with your tongue, swallow them, and spit them back out as projectiles.

Tips

  • Master the Vault: If you attach your tongue to a pole and walk around it, you’ll build up tension. Release the B button to perform a powerful vault jump across massive gaps.
  • Collect and Spit: You can hold multiple enemies in your mouth at once. Spitting them out together creates a wider projectile spread, which is highly effective against bosses.
  • Look for Crowns: Each stage has a hidden crown. Exploring off the beaten path using your tongue’s full extension is often the key to finding them.
