Game description:

Centipede Revision 4 is the classic 1980 arcade fixed shooter where you defend yourself against a relentless, winding insect invasion. Originally developed by Atari, this fast-paced title places you at the bottom of a mushroom-filled screen as a segmented centipede makes its way down towards you, accompanied by erratic spiders, dropping fleas, and scorpions that poison the playfield. It remains an iconic piece of arcade history known for its escalating speed and challenging mechanics.

How to Play

Your objective is to shoot all segments of the centipede before it reaches the bottom of the screen. Shooting a segment splits the centipede in two and turns that segment into a mushroom, creating new obstacles and altering its path. Use the arrow keys to move your bug blaster around the bottom area of the screen, press Z or Space to fire, Shift to insert a coin, and Enter to start. Clear the screen of centipedes to advance to the next, faster wave.

Tips

  • Control the mushroom population: Fleas drop down and leave mushrooms behind when the lower playfield is too empty. Keep some mushrooms around to prevent a constant swarm of fleas.
  • Watch for poisoned mushrooms: Scorpions move horizontally and poison any mushrooms they touch. If a centipede hits a poisoned mushroom, it will abandon its normal path and dive straight to the bottom of the screen.
  • Prioritize the spider: The spider moves erratically near the bottom and is often your most immediate physical threat, but it is also worth high points if you shoot it at close range.
