Castlevania is Konami’s classic action platformer, brought to DOS in 1986. Step into the shoes of Simon Belmont as he cracks his legendary whip, the Vampire Killer, through the haunted halls of Dracula’s castle. The game is renowned for its gothic atmosphere, deliberate pacing, and demanding difficulty, requiring careful jumps and strategic use of sub-weapons to survive the relentless undead.
How to play
The goal is to navigate through six distinct stages, defeating bosses like the Giant Bat and Medusa, before facing Dracula himself. Simon can walk, jump, crouch, and attack with his whip. He can also use special sub-weapons powered by hearts dropped by enemies or found in candles. To use a sub-weapon, press the attack key while holding the up arrow.

Game is controlled by the same keys that are used for playing under MS DOS. For fullscreen press ‘Right Alt’ + ‘Enter’. |
Tips
- Break candles to find hearts and weapon upgrades. The cross (boomerang) and holy water are incredibly useful; holy water can stun enemies and deal continuous damage, making boss fights much easier.
- Simon’s jumps have a fixed arcโonce you commit to a jump, you cannot change direction in mid-air, so time your leaps carefully, especially around flying enemies like Medusa Heads.
