Game description:

Castlevania II English Re-translation (+Map) is a comprehensive enhancement of the classic NES action-RPG Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. This popular ROM hack completely re-translates the game’s script from the original Japanese Famicom Disk System release, replacing the notoriously cryptic and confusing townsfolk clues with accurate, helpful hints. It also adds a highly requested feature: an in-game map that makes navigating the non-linear countryside of Transylvania significantly more manageable.

How to Play

The objective remains the same: guide Simon Belmont through towns, forests, and mansions to gather the five cursed body parts of Dracula and break the hex placed upon him. The controls are standard for the NES: use the D-pad to move, press A to jump, and press B to attack with your whip. To use secondary weapons (like holy water or daggers), hold Up on the D-pad and press B. In this hack, you can view the newly added map by pressing the Select button.

Tips

  • Talk to everyone in towns; thanks to the re-translation, the villagers actually provide useful clues for finding Dracula’s mansions and hidden items.
  • The Holy Water is one of the most versatile secondary weapons in the game, capable of stunlocking enemies and breaking fake blocks in mansions.
  • Remember to equip the different crystals you find to reveal hidden paths, such as kneeling at specific dead ends to trigger secret passages.
