Developed by Rare in 1990 for the NES, Captain Skyhawk is an isometric scrolling shooter that puts you in the cockpit of an advanced fighter jet to thwart an alien invasion of Earth. The game breaks up its isometric bombing runs and supply drops with fast-paced air-to-air dogfights and challenging space station docking sequences where you can purchase weapon upgrades.
How to play
Your objective is to destroy alien bases, drop supplies to isolated scientists, and survive to the end of each stage. Use the Arrow keys for directional movement, and the Z and X keys (mapping to the NES A and B buttons) to fire your main cannons and launch secondary weapons like bombs or missiles. Press Enter (Start) to begin.
Tips
- Prioritize upgrading your main cannon at the space station first, as it provides unlimited, reliable firepower.
- During the isometric stages, enemies typically only fire when you cross their vertical line of sight. Avoid sweeping back and forth across the screen unnecessarily to dodge enemy fire more easily.
- When docking at the space station, make very gentle taps on the directional keys. The controls in this section are highly sensitive, and crashing will cost you a life.
