Board Game Top Shop is a Monopoly-style party game released for the PlayStation in 1999 by KID. Instead of buying traditional real estate, up to four players navigate around a multi-story shopping mall, purchasing vacant lots to open various themed stores. As opponents land on your properties, they are forced to buy items from your inventory, draining their cash while building your fortune.
How to Play
The objective is to bankrupt the other players or reach the target cash goal first. When you land on an empty space, you can buy it and choose what kind of store to open. Landing on your own store allows you to expand it or restock your inventory, while landing on a competitor’s store forces you to spend money there. The game uses standard PlayStation controls: use the D-pad to navigate menus, X to confirm actions and roll the dice, and Triangle to cancel or view the map.
Tips
- Restock frequently: Keep an eye on your store’s inventory. If a competitor lands on your shop and you have no items left to sell, they won’t have to pay you anything.
- Build chains: Grouping your stores next to each other creates a chain, significantly multiplying the prices of your items and draining opponents’ wallets much faster.
- Use elevators: Use the mall’s elevators and escalators strategically to quickly move between floors and secure the most profitable sections before other players.
