Game description:

The Blue Marlin is a deep-sea fishing simulation game released for the NES in 1991. Serving as a spiritual successor to The Black Bass, the game moves players from freshwater lakes to the open ocean, tasking them with hunting down massive saltwater fish like sailfish, swordfish, and the titular blue marlin.

How to Play

Navigate the waters to find a promising spot, cast your line, and prepare for a fight. Once a fish bites, you must carefully manage your line tension and stamina to reel in your catch without snapping the line. Controls use the standard NES layout: use the D-pad to move, A/B (mapped to Z/X on your keyboard) to cast and reel, and Start/Select (Enter/Shift) for menus.

Tips

  • Keep a close eye on the tension meter. If the fish pulls hard, let out some line rather than risking a break.
  • Conserve your angler’s stamina. A tired angler won’t be able to reel in the heaviest catches, so pace yourself during long fights.
