Based on the 1989 film, Batman is a legendary action-platformer released for the NES by Sunsoft. Recognized as one of the standout titles of the 8-bit era, the game departs from typical licensed adaptations by offering incredibly tight controls, an unforgettable dark aesthetic, and a pulsing chiptune soundtrack. Players navigate Gotham City’s treacherous environments, fighting through the Joker’s goons in a quest to save the city.
How to Play
Your objective is to battle through five increasingly difficult stages, culminating in a showdown with the Joker in the Gotham Cathedral. Batman can attack with his fists or use limited-ammo gadgets like the Batarang, Dirk, and Pellet Gun. The game’s signature move is the wall jump, which allows you to scale vertical surfaces by kicking off them. By default in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump, X to attack or fire gadgets, and Shift to cycle through your weapons. Press Enter to pause.
Tips
- Master the Wall Jump: Timing your wall jumps is essential for traversing stages and avoiding hazards. Press the jump button exactly when you make contact with a wall to spring upward and backward.
- Save Your Ammo: Gadget ammunition drops from defeated enemies but is scarce. Save your Batarangs and Pellet Guns for tough sections or boss fights.
- Observe Boss Patterns: Bosses deal massive damage, but their movements are predictable. Focus on dodging their attacks and striking when they are vulnerable.
