Game description:

Baseball is Nintendo’s 1983 Famicom sports title, released on the NES in North America in 1985. It trims the sport to its essentials — nine innings, three outs per side, and the full cycle of pitching, batting, and fielding — with no licensed teams, just clean playable baseball against the CPU or a second player with a gamepad.

How to Play

The game alternates you between offense and defense each half-inning. When pitching, use the arrow keys to position where the ball crosses the plate, then press X to deliver. When batting, time your swing with X as the pitch arrives. On defense, control shifts automatically to the fielder nearest the ball; move with the arrow keys and press X to throw — the ball goes toward whichever base you are pointing at when you release.

A second player requires a gamepad; no keyboard bindings are mapped for Player 2.

Tips

  • Vary your pitch between inside and outside corners — throwing to the same spot repeatedly lets the CPU anticipate and make solid contact.
  • Before pressing X on a throw from the outfield, hold the arrow key toward your target base; the ball tracks where you are pointing.
  • Shift your fielders a step toward the expected hit zone before each pitch to turn potential gappers into outs.
