Game description:

Baseball on the NES, developed and published by Nintendo in 1985, is a foundational sports simulation that helped establish the genre on home consoles. As one of the early titles for the system, it offers straightforward, arcade-style gameplay where you control a team across nine innings of pitching, batting, and fielding. While simple by modern standards, its accessible design and responsive mechanics laid the groundwork for decades of baseball video games.

How to Play

The objective is to score more runs than the opposing team across nine innings by hitting the ball and safely circling the bases. The game uses standard NES controls, mapped to your keyboard:

  • D-pad (Arrow Keys): Move the batter in the box, steer pitches, or direct fielders.
  • A Button (X): Swing the bat or throw a pitch.
  • B Button (Z): Throw to a specific base while fielding or advance base runners.
  • Start (Enter) / Select (Shift): Pause the game or cycle through options.

Tips

  • When pitching, you can curve the ball mid-flight by pressing left or right on the D-pad, making it much harder for the batter to connect.
  • Batting relies entirely on timing. Try to hit the ball exactly as it crosses the plate to hit line drives; swinging early or late often results in fouls or easy pop-ups.
  • Your outfielders will automatically run toward the ball once it is hit. Focus your attention on pressing the B button and the corresponding D-pad direction to throw out runners.
