Baseball Stars is a landmark 1989 sports game developed by SNK Corporation for the NES. It pioneered the baseball simulation genre on consoles, allowing you to create custom teams, name your players, and build up their stats over time using its battery save feature.
How to play
Compete in full seasons or quick exhibitions, managing your team’s roster and budget as you play. The controls map to the standard NES layout: move your players and aim pitches with the directional keys, swing or throw with Z (A button), and use X (B button) for secondary actions like stealing bases or throwing to a specific base.
Tips
- Invest your early game earnings into upgrading your custom players’ hitting and running stats before worrying about defense. High-scoring offenses carry you further in the early leagues.
- When pitching, you can control the ball mid-flight. Use the directional keys right after throwing to curve the pitch and confuse the batter.
