Originally released in Japan in 1994 for the Sega Genesis, Bare Knuckle III (known internationally as Streets of Rage 3) is a classic side-scrolling beat ’em up developed by Sega. The Syndicate is back under the leadership of Mr. X, who has replaced city officials with robotic clones to cover up a dangerous new explosive substance. It is up to returning heroes Axel, Blaze, and Skate, along with the cyborg Dr. Zan, to fight their way through the city and stop him.
How to Play
The objective is to battle through multiple stages of enemies, utilizing combos, throws, and special attacks to defeat the boss at the end of each area. The branching storyline means your performance and speed in certain levels will determine which ending you receive.
Controls:
- Arrow Keys: Move (double-tap left or right to run)
- Z: Special Attack (drains a small amount of health if your power meter is not full)
- X: Attack
- C: Jump
- Enter: Start / Pause
Tips
- Watch the Power Meter: Unlike earlier games, your special attacks won’t drain your health if you wait for the “OK” meter under your life bar to fill up before using them.
- Weapons Break: Weapons like pipes and bats deal high damage but have a limited number of uses before they break. Dr. Zan also turns weapons into energy balls instead of swinging them.
- Unlock Roo: In the second stage, if you defeat the clown boss Bruce without killing his kangaroo companion Roo, Roo will become selectable as a playable character when you continue.
