Game description:

Developed by Rare and released in 1998, Banjo-Kazooie is a landmark 3D platformer for the Nintendo 64. You control a bear and bird duo exploring expansive, non-linear worlds inside Gruntilda’s Lair to rescue Banjo’s sister. Collecting Jiggies unlocks new levels, while grabbing Musical Notes breaks down magical doors deeper in the hub world.

How to Play

Your main objective in each world is to find 10 Jiggies, collect 100 Musical Notes, and locate Mumbo Tokens to purchase transformations. Movement is typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys (representing the N64 analog stick). Use the jump button (A) and attack button (B) to navigate and fight, while crouching (Z) combined with other buttons lets Kazooie perform special moves.

Tips

  • Notes reset on death: In this original N64 version, your Musical Note score for a level is your highest amount collected in a single life. If you die, all notes in the level respawn, and you must beat your previous high score to increase your total.
  • Learn every move: Keep an eye out for Bottles the Mole’s dirt mounds. You must speak to him to learn new moves required to access later areas and Jiggies.
  • Talon Trot up slopes: Once learned, use the Talon Trot move to scale steep, slippery hills that Banjo cannot climb on foot.
