Game description:

Avalanche is an Atari 2600 action game from 1978 in which boulders tumble down the screen and you slide a catcher left and right to collect them before they hit the ground. Published by Atari at the dawn of the home cartridge era, it strips the falling-object reflex genre to its core: the pace rises steadily, and missing rocks shortens your run.

How to play

Move your catcher left and right with the joystick: arrow keys for Player 1, T / G / F / H for Player 2. No button press is needed during play — positioning is everything. Press F12 to reset and F11 to select a game variant. A second player joins on the same keyboard. The emulator supports both joystick and paddle input; press Alt+L to switch modes — paddle mode can feel more natural for a catching game like this.

Tips

  • Track the rocks from the top of the screen rather than reacting at the last moment — by the time a boulder is near the bottom, your window to adjust is almost gone.
  • If the joystick movement feels imprecise, try switching to paddle mode (Alt+L) for smoother left-right control.
