Animaniacs is a classic platformer developed by Konami and released for the Game Boy in 1995. Based on the popular animated series, players take control of the Warner siblingsโYakko, Wakko, and Dotโas they escape from the Warner Bros. water tower. While it shares a name with the 16-bit console versions, this handheld iteration features completely original level designs tailored for the Game Boy.
The objective is to navigate through various stages, collecting scripts and defeating enemies to ultimately recover the pieces of their new movie. You can switch between the three siblings on the fly, and each has a unique ability necessary for solving puzzles: Yakko can push heavy objects, Wakko uses his trusty mallet to smash obstacles, and Dot can blow kisses to pacify foes. Default controls for the Game Boy use the D-pad to move, A to jump, B to attack, and Select to switch characters (mapped to the arrow keys, Z, X, and Shift in your browser).
Tips
- Remember to switch characters frequently; if you’re stuck, another sibling’s ability is usually the key to progressing.
- Wakko’s mallet is your best offensive option against most enemies, so keep him active during combat sections.
- Take your time during platforming segments, as the characters carry some momentum when moving.
