Game description:

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle is a 1989 action-platformer developed by SEGA Enterprises for the Sega Genesis. Serving as the 16-bit continuation of Sega’s original mascot series, the game sends Alex to the planet Paperock to rescue his father. It retains the series’ defining mechanics: shattering blocks with punches, collecting gold coins (Baums), and risking your earnings in Janken (Rock, Paper, Scissors) matches to win specialized items and vehicles.

How to Play

Navigate through eleven treacherous stages, avoiding a single-hit death from enemies and hazards. Gathering coins allows you to challenge shopkeepers to Janken; winning grants you items like the Pedicopter or Pogo Stick, which significantly change how you navigate a level.

  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Punch / Use Item: S or X
  • Jump: Z
  • Start / Pause: Enter

Tips

  • Use the Jump Kick: Attacking while in the air performs a downward kick. This move often has better range and is much safer than approaching enemies on foot for a standard punch.
  • Watch the Janken Tells: Opponents in the Rock, Paper, Scissors houses are not entirely random. Many have specific sequences or tells that you can learn to consistently win items.
  • Preserve Your Vehicles: Items like the Sukopako Motorcycle and Pedicopter let you fly or speed over dangerous platforming sections, but taking damage will instantly destroy them.
