Aerial Assault is a horizontal-scrolling shooter released for the Sega Master System in 1990. Developed by Sanritsu and published by Sega, the game puts you in the cockpit of the “Freedom Fighter” jet. Your mission is to battle through five stages of intense aerial combat to stop the militaristic N.A.C. organization from using their “EL” laser weapon to destroy Earth’s ozone layer. Along the way, you’ll face a variety of enemy forces, including jets, submarines, and massive fortresses, dodging hazards in environments that range from lightning storms to outer space.
How to Play
Your objective is to shoot down enemy craft while avoiding their projectiles and environmental hazards. Destroying specific enemies will drop power-ups, allowing you to upgrade your main weapon with abilities like the 3-Way Shot or Chaser Missiles, as well as equipping secondary bomb-type weapons.
To play in your browser, use the default Sega Master System controls: the arrow keys act as the D-pad for movement, Z for Button 1, X for Button 2, and Enter for Start.
Tips
- Do not select the “Easy” difficulty setting if you want to complete the game; the full campaign and ending are only accessible on “Normal” or “Hard”.
- Switch your weapons strategically. Spread shots are great for clearing smaller enemies, but you will want concentrated firepower for bosses and fortresses.
- Pay close attention to the background in the stormy levels, as environmental lightning strikes can damage your ship.
