Game description:

Developed by Racdym and published by Banpresto in 1996, Genei Tougi: Shadow Struggle is a Japan-exclusive 3D fighting game for the PlayStation. Known for its distinctive character designs by manga artist Ryลji Minagawa, it drops players into an underground “Power of Solid” fighting tournament. As Racdym’s first developed title, it offers a solid foundation of 3D fighting mechanics akin to other early genre pioneers, offering a unique slice of competitive fighting history that never made it overseas.

How to Play

The goal is to defeat your opponent in a best-of-three rounds match by depleting their health bar or having the most health when the time runs out. The game uses a standard 3D fighting control scheme with quick punches, strong attacks, blocks, and throws. In the web emulator, the PlayStation’s D-pad is mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys for movement, while the face buttons (Cross, Circle, Square, and Triangle) are typically bound to the Z, X, A, and S keys. Press Enter to use the Start button.

Tips

  • Like many 3D fighters of its era, spacing is crucial. Bait your opponent into missing a heavy attack, then step in to punish them during their recovery animation.
  • Don’t rely exclusively on flashy moves; quick jabs and low kicks are often more effective for interrupting enemy combos and creating openings.
