Game description:

Major League Baseball is a 1988 baseball sim for the NES, developed by Atlus and published by LJN. It was one of the first video games officially licensed by Major League Baseball itself, letting it feature all 26 teams from the 1987 season โ€” though without a deal with the players’ union, rosters show jersey numbers instead of real player names. The game plays from a behind-the-catcher view for pitching and batting, switching to a wider view once the ball is in play, and was notable enough at the time to be featured in the very first issue of Nintendo Power.

How to Play

This NES title uses standard controls: the D-pad is mapped to your keyboard’s Arrow Keys, the A and B buttons to Z and X, and Start and Select to Enter and Shift. When pitching, press A to throw; leaving the D-pad neutral throws a straight pitch at normal speed, Left/Right aims the pitch inside or outside, Down throws a fastball, and Up throws a change-up โ€” you can still nudge the ball Left/Right after release. When batting, use Up/Down to adjust your stance in the batter’s box and press A to swing, aiming with Left/Right against pitches on the outside or inside corner; releasing A mid-swing pulls the bat back into a bunt. On the bases, press B plus a direction to send a runner further than one base or attempt a steal.
