Family Trainer – Running Stadium is a competitive track and field sports game developed by Human Entertainment and published by Bandai for the NES in 1986. Originally designed to be played with the Family Trainer floor mat (released internationally as the Power Pad) and later localized in the West as Stadium Events and World Class Track Meet, this classic title challenges players to test their speed and timing across four athletic events: the 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.
How to Play
Choose an event and aim to beat the qualifying times or outrun an opponent in head-to-head races. While the original hardware required players to physically run in place on a mat, you can build up your runner’s speed in this browser version by rapidly alternating your controller inputs. Time your leaps carefully in the hurdles and distance jumps to avoid faulting or losing your momentum.
- D-pad (Arrow Keys): Navigate menus / Alternate to run
- A / B (Z / X): Jump / Alternate to run
- Start (Enter): Start game / Pause
- Select (Shift): Select game mode
Tips
- Prioritize speed in jumps: In the long jump and triple jump, building maximum speed before reaching the foul line is critical. A jump at top speed yields much better distance than a perfectly placed jump at a slower pace.
- Find a rhythm for hurdles: The 110-meter hurdles require steady timing. Jumping too early or too late will cause your runner to trip, drastically reducing your speed.
