Game description:

Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World, developed by New World Computing and released in 1988, is a deep, grid-based role-playing game on the SNES. You assemble a party of adventurers to explore the vast world of CRON, navigating treacherous dungeons, bustling towns, and varied wilderness as you track down the elusive villain Sheltem.

How to play

Players navigate from a first-person perspective, managing a party’s combat formation, spells, and equipment through turn-based encounters. The SNES controller translates well to keyboard play: use the Arrow Keys (โ†‘โ†“โ†โ†’) to move through the world, Z to confirm actions or attack, and X to cancel or access menus. Secondary functions are mapped to A and S (SNES X and Y), while Q and E (L and R buttons) often help with navigation or party management. Press Enter (Start) to pause or open the main menu, and Shift (Select) for status screens.

Tips

  • Hirelings are essential: You can recruit up to two hirelings at inns to join your core party of six, giving you extra combat power and utility skills early on.
  • Save your gold for training: Leveling up isn’t automatic; characters must visit a training ground and pay a fee to advance their stats once they have enough experience.
  • Learn the Fly spell: Traversing CRON on foot can be deadly. Acquiring the Fly spell as soon as your sorcerer is capable will let you safely bypass difficult overworld terrain and quickly travel between towns.
