Game description:

Panel de Pon is a fast-paced action puzzle game developed by Intelligent Systems and released for the Super Famicom (SNES) in 1995. Originally exclusive to Japan, this title introduced the highly addictive “swap and match” mechanics that western players later came to know as Tetris Attack. Players must clear a continuously rising stack of blocks by matching their colors while facing off against a cast of colorful fairy opponents.

How to Play

The objective is to prevent your stack of panels from reaching the top of the screen. Use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to move your cursor, and press the action buttons (typically mapped to Z, X, A, or S) to swap the positions of two horizontally adjacent panels. Match three or more panels of the same color either horizontally or vertically to clear them. If you need blocks faster, press the shoulder buttons (mapped to Q or W) to manually raise the stack.

Tips

  • Master Chaining: Chains occur when blocks fall into place and immediately create a new match. Building chains is crucial for survival and for sending garbage blocks to your opponent. Look for panels you can slide into position while the ones beneath them are clearing.
  • Active Swapping: You don’t have to wait for the clearing animation to finish. You can continue moving your cursor and swapping other blocks on the screen while matches are actively resolving.
