NAM-1975 is a gallery shooter released for the Arcade by SNK in 1990, famous for being the very first game developed for the Neo Geo MVS hardware. Set during the final months of the Vietnam War, you take on the role of ex-Special Forces soldiers Silver and Brown as they blast their way through enemy lines to rescue kidnapped scientists. The game plays from a behind-the-back perspective where you move your character at the bottom of the screen while simultaneously aiming a crosshair across the battlefield.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the side-scrolling stages, defeat the bosses, and rescue hostages to secure weapon upgrades. For Arcade games in the browser, press Shift to insert coins and Enter to start.
- Arrow Keys: Move your character and aim the crosshair
- Z: Fire machine gun
- X: Throw grenades (limited supply)
- C: Perform an evasive roll or sprint
Tips
- Master the evasive roll (C). You are completely invincible during the animation, making it the most reliable way to survive heavy crossfire and boss attacks.
- Keep an eye out for female hostages. Rescuing them not only awards points but often grants you a partner who will follow you and provide valuable backup fire.
- Don’t waste your grenades on regular infantry; save them for heavily armored vehicles, helicopters, and end-of-level bosses.
