Zoop is a fast-paced, real-time puzzle game released for the Sega Genesis in 1995. You control a shape in the center of the screen, surrounded by a grid where colored pieces constantly advance towards you from all four sides. Your goal is to clear these incoming pieces before they can cross the boundary line into your central safe zone.
To play, use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to aim and move around the center, and the A, B, or C buttons (mapped to Z, X, and C on your keyboard) to shoot. The core mechanic is color matching: if your shape’s color matches the incoming piece you hit, that pieceโand any adjacent pieces of the same colorโis eliminated. If the colors do not match, your shape swaps colors with the piece you hit, which is the primary way you reload different colors to clear the board.
Tips: Look for opportunities to grab a color that will let you clear a large cluster of pieces on another side of the grid. Prioritize the pieces closest to your central square, but use the spring power-ups when overwhelmed to instantly clear an entire column regardless of your current color.
