World Championship Soccer (also known as World Cup Soccer) is a fast-paced arcade sports game released by Sega in 1989 for the Sega Genesis. As one of the console’s early titles, it offers an exciting top-down perspective where you can choose from 24 international teams and compete in a global tournament to claim the championship cup.
How to Play
Select your national team and guide them through the tournament bracket. Use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to move your players around the pitch. When you have the ball, use the A button to shoot, the B button for a short pass, and the C button to execute a long lob. On defense, press A or B to perform a sliding tackle, and use C to switch control to the player closest to the ball.
Tips
Passes automatically target the nearest teammate in the direction you are facing, so chain quick passes together to weave through the opposing defense. Defensive tackles are powerful and easily dispossess the opponent, but timing is crucialโmissing a slide will leave your player on the ground and temporarily out of the action.
