Game description:

World Champ, famously bearing the memorable subtitle Super Boxing: Great Fight!, is an arcade-style boxing simulation developed by Pixel and published by Romstar for the NES in 1991. The game stands out from other boxing titles of the era by incorporating RPG-like elements into its core Ranking mode, challenging players to build up their boxer’s stats through training before competing for the championship across four different weight classes.

The main objective in Ranking mode is to train your boxer, improving their strength and stamina to survive against increasingly difficult opponents in the ring. The game also features a standard two-player Vs. mode and an eight-player bracket tournament. The default NES controls apply: use the D-pad to move your boxer and dodge, while the A and B buttons handle your punches. In the browser emulator, these are mapped to your arrow keys for movement, and the Z and X keys for punching, with Enter and Shift for Start and Select.

Since opponents become significantly tougher as you progress, be prepared to do a lot of stat grinding in the training sessions between fights; neglecting your boxer’s stamina will make later matches nearly impossible to win. Pay close attention to enemy patterns and time your dodges carefully, as trading blows without a strategy will quickly drain your health against higher-ranked fighters.
