Originally released in 1986, Wonder Boy is a classic arcade action platformer developed by Escape (later Westone) and published by Sega. You take on the role of a caveboy named Tom-Tom, embarking on a fast-paced journey across forests, oceans, and caves to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend, Tina. The game stands out for its unique momentum-based movement and a constantly draining vitality meter that turns every level into a frantic race for survival.
How to Play
The objective is to reach the goal at the end of each area before your vitality meter runs out, while dodging obstacles and defeating enemies. As an arcade game, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Move Tom-Tom using the Arrow keys, and use Z and X to jump, run, and throw your stone axes.
Tips
- Your vitality meter drains continuously over time; you must constantly collect the fruit scattered throughout the levels to stay alive.
- Finding a skateboard gives you an extra hit point and allows you to move much faster, but you won’t be able to come to a complete stop.
- Smashing open eggs can reveal helpful items like stone axes or a fairy for invincibility, but watch out for the spotted eggs which unleash a grim reaper that rapidly drains your health.
