Wizardry III – Diamond no Kishi is a classic first-person dungeon crawler RPG released for the NES in 1989 by ASCII Corporation. Known as Knight of Diamonds in Western PC releases, this Famicom port brings the unforgiving grid-based exploration and deep party customization of the legendary series to the 8-bit console.
How to Play
Your objective is to build a party of up to six adventurers and descend into the labyrinth to recover the Staff of Gnilda. Combat is purely turn-based, requiring careful management of health, magic points, and party formation.
- D-pad (Arrow keys): Navigate the dungeon and menus
- A (X): Confirm actions and select commands
- B (Z): Cancel or go back
- Start (Enter): Open the status menu
- Select (Shift): Swap character displays
Tips
- Always include a Priest for healing and a Mage for elemental damage. A balanced party is essential for surviving the lower floors.
- Do not venture too far from the stairs initially. Fight battles near the entrance to safely level up your party and earn gold.
- Use the DUMAPIC spell frequently to track your exact coordinates in the dungeon, as the maze is filled with teleporters and spinners that will disorient you.
