Wit’s (sometimes listed as Wits Japan) is a competitive maze game developed by Athena and released for the arcade in 1989. Heavily inspired by the light cycles from Tron, up to four players navigate an arena, each leaving a solid trail behind them. The objective is to outmaneuver your opponents, forcing them to crash into a wall or an existing line to be the last one standing.
You can move in four directions and have access to two special abilities: a speed boost to cut off rivals, and a jump to escape traps. You only get one jump per life, so use it carefully. As a standard arcade title, press Shift (or 5) to insert a coin and Enter (or 1) to start. Use the Arrow Keys to steer, and Z / X for your speed and jump actions.
When playing through the 99 rounds of increasing difficulty, avoid the temptation to use your jump aggressively. Save it strictly as an emergency exit when you are boxed in. In multiplayer, stick close to the arena walls early on to minimize the angles from which opponents can attack you.
