Wiping is a 1982 arcade action game developed by Jorudan and published by Nichibutsu, released in Japan that December and in North America the following January under the alternate title Rug Rats. It’s a Dig Dug-style room-clearing game: you pilot a vacuum cleaner around a dust-covered room, sucking up dirt to uncover bars of soap while fending off wandering germs.
How to Play
The objective is to clear each room of germs before they catch you. Arcade controls in the browser map the joystick to the arrow keys, with the soap-bubble attack on the Z key. Insert virtual coins with the Shift key and press Enter to start. Fire a bubble at an oncoming germ to stun it, then roll over the stunned germ to suck it up. Driving over a dust-covered rug also rolls it up, squashing any germ standing on it.
Tips
- Fire a soap bubble the moment a germ starts running at you â stun it before it reaches you, then suck it up while it’s dazed.
- Roll over rugs to squash germs standing on them without spending a bubble.
- Track down all four bonus items hidden under the dust in each room; collecting the full set spawns a crown that makes you briefly faster and invulnerable.
