Vasara 2 is a 2001 vertical shoot ’em up in the bullet-hell (danmaku) style, developed and published by Visco Corporation as the studio’s final arcade release. A sequel to 2000’s Vasara, it’s set as a prequel in an alternate history that blends Japan’s Sengoku period with science-fantasy trappings, casting the warlord Oda Nobunaga as the game’s antagonist. Players choose from five sword-, spear-, and shuriken-wielding warriors, each piloting a hover bike into six stages of dense enemy fire and giant bosses.
How to Play
The objective is to fight through each stage’s waves of soldiers and defeat the sub-commanders and stage boss before they escape. Rather than a bomb, each character has three rechargeable “Vasara” special-attack meters, charged by collecting blue jewels dropped by fallen enemies, that clear the screen of bullets and deal heavy damage. The default browser controls map the arcade joystick to the arrow keys, with Z for your main attack and X to unleash a Vasara. Insert a virtual coin with Shift and press Enter to start.
Tips
- Don’t let bosses flee: the Prestige Kill System awards large score multipliers for destroying each stage’s sub-commanders and general before they escape, so finish them off rather than dodging past them.
- Contact with regular enemies isn’t fatal: touching a ship or soldier only knocks you back a little instead of costing a life, so you can push through weaker enemies when the bullet patterns get tight and save your full evasive maneuvers for boss attacks.
- Hold a Vasara in reserve: with three rechargeable meters, it’s tempting to spend them the moment they fill, but keeping at least one banked going into a boss fight gives you an emergency screen-clear when things get dangerous.
