Game description:

Vandyke Japan is a top-down hack-and-slash action game released for the Arcade in 1990 by UPL. You control a barbarian-style hero on a fast-paced quest to defeat hordes of fantasy monsters, including giant scorpions and toads. With its quirky humor and mix of melee combat with occasional platforming elements, it stands as a memorable arcade adventure similar to other classic titles of its era.

How to Play

Your objective is to fight your way through each stage, defeating enemies and the end-of-level bosses to progress. Use the directional controls to move in 8 directions, and use the action buttons to swing your weapon or jump. As a standard arcade game, you typically insert a coin (Shift) and press Start (Enter), using the arrow keys for movement alongside Z and X for your main actions.

Tips

  • Collect Meat: Keep an eye out for meat items; they increase your attack power and trigger a brief heroic pose from your character.
  • Weapon Variety: While you start with a standard sword, you can find alternative weapons like boomerangs, bombs, and a flail-and-chain. Adapt your weapon choice depending on the enemies ahead.
