Game description:

V-V (pronounced V-Five), also known as Grind Stormer outside of Japan, is a high-speed vertical shoot ’em up developed by Toaplan and ported to the Sega Genesis in 1994. Known for its intense bullet-hell mechanics, the Japanese release offers a distinct power-up system where collecting items moves a cursor along an upgrade bar, allowing you to choose your enhancements strategically.

How to Play

Navigate your ship through waves of enemy forces and defeat the stage bosses. By collecting power-up items, you advance the selection on your power meter to unlock speed boosts, shot upgrades, missiles, or shields. The default browser emulator controls map the Genesis D-pad to your Arrow keys, Start to the Enter key, and the A/B/C action buttons to Z/X/C.

Tips

  • Manage your power meter: Wait until the meter highlights the specific upgrade you need before activating it, rather than selecting the first available option.
  • Prioritize speed early: Getting one or two speed upgrades at the start of a life makes dodging the fast-moving bullet patterns significantly easier.
