Game description:

Undercover Cops is a post-apocalyptic beat ’em up originally developed by Irem for the arcade and brought to the Super Famicom in 1995. You play as a City Sweeperโ€”Zan, Matt, or Rosaโ€”tasked with cleaning up the crime-ridden streets of 2043. Known for its gritty atmosphere, detailed pixel art, and the ability to wield massive environmental objects like steel girders and motorcycles as weapons, it stands out as one of the most distinctive brawlers of its era.

How to play

The objective is to fight your way through stages filled with enemy thugs and mutants, culminating in a boss battle at the end of each area. By default in the web emulator, use the Arrow keys to move. The SNES face buttons are mapped to Z, X, A, and S for attacking and jumping. Press Enter to start or pause the game, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Always look for heavy environmental weapons; swinging a concrete pillar deals devastating damage and keeps groups of enemies at bay.
  • When completely surrounded, press the attack and jump buttons simultaneously to perform a health-draining desperation move that knocks back all nearby foes.
  • Different characters have unique dash and throw techniques. Experiment with Matt for raw grappling power or Rosa for agility.
