Game description:

Tunneler is a pioneering two-player split-screen tank game released for DOS by Geoffrey Silverton in 1991. You and an opponent are dropped into a subterranean map with completely destructible terrain, tasked with digging through the dirt to find and destroy each other’s tank.

How to play

The objective is purely head-to-head multiplayer: track down the enemy tank and shoot it before they do the same to you. Keep a close eye on your energy meter, as digging and moving consume fuel. You must regularly return to your base to recharge, or risk being stranded and vulnerable in the tunnels. Player 1 steers their tank using the arrow keys, while Player 2 uses keys on the opposite side of the keyboard to navigate and attack.

Tips

  • Create dead-ends and branching paths to confuse your opponent and set up ambushes.
  • Conserve energy by using existing tunnels where possible, but beware of encountering your opponent head-on in a narrow space.
  • Your base is your lifeline; remember its location and always leave yourself enough energy to make the return trip.
