Game description:

Released for DOS in 1985 by Psion Software, Psion Chess is a classic digital adaptation of the traditional board game. Powered by Richard Lang’s championship-winning engine, the game was noted for its strong AI opponent and offered players a choice between a standard 2D view and an innovative pseudo-3D perspective.

How to Play

Play follows standard chess rules with the objective of checkmating the opponent’s king. In the browser-based DOS emulator, you can control the game using your keyboard to navigate menus, select pieces, and input moves. You can adjust the difficulty by changing the amount of time the engine takes to calculate its next move.

Tips

  • Use the 2D overhead view if you find the 3D perspective difficult to read, as it provides a clearer overview of the board state.
  • Lower the engine’s calculation time if you are a beginner; giving the AI too much time at higher difficulties will result in a punishingly strong opponent.
