Toobin’ is Atari Games’ 1988 arcade hit ported to the NES by Tengen, casting you as a tuber riding an inflatable inner tube down a series of increasingly wild river courses. The current pulls you forward whether you’re ready or not, and enemies swarm the banks while hazards fill the water — matching the relentless energy of the original coin-op.
How to Play
Steer your tube with the d-pad to avoid rocks, logs, whirlpools, and wildlife as the river scrolls downstream. You can throw cans at enemies: X launches one to the right, Z to the left — essential for clearing crocodiles and hostile bank-side characters that block your path. Collect the letters spelling T-O-O-B-I-N scattered across each stage to earn a bonus life. Reach the finish line to clear the stage. Two players can run the same river simultaneously.
Tips
- Pick your lane early. The scroll is relentless and rocks that are manageable at a distance become unavoidable if you wait too long to react.
- Favour throwing cans over fancy dodging — enemies respawn quickly, and a well-aimed can clears a corridor faster than threading through it.
- Chase the TOOBIN letters whenever you can grab them safely; extra tubes matter far more in the faster later stages than any short-cut through the current.
