Thunder Force II MD is an early Sega Genesis shoot ’em up developed by Technosoft. It is highly regarded for its dual-perspective gameplay, alternating between 8-way scrolling top-down stages and traditional horizontal side-scrolling levels. As the pilot of the EXCELIZA fighter ship, you must destroy the ORN Empire’s bases and survive intense enemy waves.

How to play

Your objective varies by stage type. In top-down stages, use your radar to locate and destroy key enemy bases to proceed. In side-scrolling stages, simply survive to the end and defeat the boss. Genesis controls in the browser default to the Arrow Keys for movement, with Z, X, and C functioning as the A, B, and C buttons to shoot and cycle through your collected weapons. Press Enter for Start.

Tips

• Use your radar: In the free-roaming top-down stages, rely on your on-screen radar to pinpoint the bases you need to destroy. Wandering blindly will leave you exposed to endless enemy spawns.
• Weapon management is key: You lose your currently equipped weapon when you lose a life. Switch to a basic weapon when you are in a risky situation to preserve your most powerful upgrades.
