The Last Blade 2 is a beautifully crafted 2D weapon-based fighting game released by SNK for the Arcade in 1998. Set during the Bakumatsu era of Japan, it refines the elegant swordplay of its predecessor with breathtaking pixel art, atmospheric stages, and a deep, tactical combat system. The game is celebrated for its precise mechanics and memorable cast of samurai, swordsmen, and supernatural warriors.
How to Play
Your objective is to defeat your opponent in 1-on-1 weapon combat by depleting their health bar. Before each match, you select a fighting style: “Speed” (allows rapid combo chains), “Power” (focuses on high damage and unblockable strikes), or “EX” (a hybrid that sacrifices defense). In this browser version, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Move with the Arrow Keys, and attack or repel using Z, X, C, and V.
Tips
- Master the Repel: The Repel mechanic is the key to high-level play. Timing a repel right as an enemy strikes will parry their weapon and leave them completely open to a devastating counter-attack.
- Start with Speed: If you are learning the game, choose the “Speed” style. It allows you to chain regular attacks into each other, making it much easier to land consistent combos compared to the heavy, single-strike focus of the “Power” style.
