The Great Ragtime Show (widely known outside Japan as Boogie Wings) is a wonderfully chaotic horizontal shooter released for the Arcade in 1992 by Data East. Set in a steampunk-inspired World War I era, you pilot a biplane armed not just with guns, but with a unique grappling hook that lets you interact with the environment in wild ways.
How to Play
Your objective is to blast your way through enemy forces and take down the boss at the end of each stage. Insert virtual coins and press Start to begin. Use the directional keys to maneuver your vehicle, and the main action buttons (typically mapped to Z and X on your keyboard) to shoot and deploy your hook.
Tips
- Use your biplane’s hook to grab objects, vehicles, and even enemy soldiers, then hurl them as improvised weapons for massive damage.
- If your biplane is destroyed, your pilot will parachute to the ground. While on foot, you are vulnerable but can commandeer a variety of other vehiclesโincluding tanks, mechs, and even animalsโto stay in the fight.
