Terao no Dosukoi Oozumou is a Japanese sumo wrestling game released for the Famicom (NES) in 1989. Endorsed by the popular real-life sumo wrestler Terao, the game combines traditional arcade-style sumo bouts with training mechanics, challenging you to build up your wrestler’s stats between matches and climb the professional sumo ranks.
How to Play
Your objective is to win tournaments by pushing your opponent out of the dohyo (ring) or forcing them to touch the ground. For the NES, you use the D-pad to position your wrestler, A and B for slaps, grabs, and throws, and Start/Select for menus. In your browser, these are mapped to the arrow keys, Z, X, Enter, and Shift.
Tips
- Stamina and positioning are critical. Rather than mashing buttons, try to anticipate your opponent’s momentum to execute successful throws.
- Invest time in the training segments between tournaments, as building your underlying stats is essential for defeating higher-ranked rikishi.
