Tengai World (often known as Sengoku Blade or simply Tengai) is a frantic horizontal-scrolling shoot ’em up released for arcades by Psikyo in 1996. The game trades the vertical scrolling of its predecessor, Samurai Ace, for a horizontal view, placing you in a fantasy version of feudal Japan. You can select from a cast of unique, flying characters and battle through waves of mechanical enemies and demons while dodging trademark fast-moving “Psikyo bullets”.
How to Play
The objective is to survive the branching stages and defeat challenging bosses at the end of each area. To control your character in the browser, use the Arrow keys for movement. Press Z to fire your primary weapon (which can be held down for a powerful charge attack), and press X to unleash a limited, screen-clearing bomb. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Master the charge attack: Your character’s charge attack is often key to destroying larger enemies quickly, but remember that holding the shot button temporarily limits your standard fire.
- Save your bombs: Bombs are rare and should be reserved for tight situations or when fighting difficult boss patterns to clear the screen of projectiles.
- Mind your hitbox: Your actual vulnerable hitbox is smaller than your character sprite, allowing you to weave through dense bullet patterns if you focus on your character’s center.
