Tecmo World Cup ’90 is an arcade-style soccer game published by Tecmo for the Sega Genesis in 1989. You choose a national squad and compete through a knockout World Cup tournament, with fast top-down matches built around timing and direct play.
How to play
Move your player with the arrow keys. Press X (Genesis B) to shoot or kick while attacking; use S (Genesis A) to pass to a teammate. When defending, Z (Genesis C) executes a slide tackle. Pause with Enter (Start).
Tips
- Get into the box before shooting — long shots are rarely effective against the keeper.
- Short passes let you work around packed defences; don’t hold the ball under pressure.
- A slide tackle wins possession cleanly when timed right, but a missed one leaves space for a counter-attack.
