Widely considered one of the most infamous action titles of its era, Superman (commonly known as Superman 64) was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 by Titus Interactive. Trapped in a virtual version of Metropolis created by Lex Luthor, players must navigate a world choked by “kryptonite fog” to save their friends. The game is notorious for its sluggish performance, difficult handling, and an endless series of ring-flying challenges that overshadow its ground-based combat and puzzle sections.
How to play
Your primary objective in most stages is to fly through a sequence of floating rings before a strict time limit expires, failing which you must restart the level. In the browser emulator, use the arrow keys to steer, press the X key (A button) to fly forward, and use the Z key (B button) to punch. You can also utilize iconic abilities like heat vision and freeze breath, provided you collect the corresponding power-ups found in the environment.
Tips
- During the ring mazes, use very small, gentle taps to steer. The flight controls are extremely sensitive, and overcorrecting will almost certainly cause you to miss a ring and fail the stage.
- Conserve your super powers for the indoor action segments, as relying on the unpredictable melee hit detection against armed enemies can quickly drain your health.
